The founder, Miwada Masako, established the phrase “Raising women with integrity and intelligence” as the school principle. We want our students to become good citizens, have high moral standards, and be full of compassion and empathy for others during and after their six years at Miwada. We believe these characteristics enable them to deepen their knowledge, carve out a career for themselves, and live their own lives flexibly in the international community.
Our curriculum, school events, and extra-curricular activities have their own goals, and are programmed to let our students acquire skills to become women with integrity and intelligence.
As expressed in the school song, our school motto is “honesty is the best policy” and it is a priority of our education. Miwada Masako taught us to keep this school motto in mind and to live fully and decently, which she believed leads to becoming a woman with integrity and intelligence. We have maintained this teaching and let the students learn to live with integrity at all times during their school lives, including everyday classes, special activities, moral education and school events.
Miwada Gakuen was founded in 1887 by Miwada Masako, a visionary who believed in the importance of women’s education, and established the phrase “Raising women with integrity and intelligence” as the school philosophy. The school commemorates its 137th anniversary this year and our school motto, “Honesty is the best policy,” embodies our educational philosophy of nurturing virtuous and talented women.
Building upon our rich traditions, since 2021 Miwada Gakuen has been taking a more active approach to encourage students to not only philosophize and explore but also challenge themselves and take action. We’ve introduced “philosophical dialogue” into our curriculum to enhance communication, listening, questioning and critical thinking skills, exposing students to new and diverse ideas.
Furthermore, in 2021 we introduced “MIWADA-HUB,” an inquiry-based learning program. MIWADA-HUB aims to further connect students with the people in their community, their studies and society as they develop problem-solving skills and the enthusiasm to tackle challenges in our rapidly changing world. Miwada Gakuen encourages students to act as “bridges” rather than “walls” of division through the innovation of unique ideas and solutions.

In the 2021 school year, Miwada Gakuen updated its school uniform inspired by the concepts of “Choice” and “Diversity.” “Choice” encourages students to create their own comfortable uniform combinations, while “Diversity” promotes the appreciation of differences.
The motto “Unity in Diversity” defines Miwada Gakuen, where students, each with a distinct individuality, come together under the guiding tenant of “Honesty is the best policy.” This is the essence of Miwada Gakuen.
